GDCDA Attends MAEDC Conference
The Mid-America Economic Development Council held their Competitiveness Conference last week, December 8-10th in downtown Chicago. Megan Carlson, Project Manager, attended the conference on behalf of the Alliance. The Alliance has recently became a MAEDC member, and looks forward to partnering with regional groups through the council, as well as taking advantage of the other member benefits offered.
Site selectors from across the country, representing many different industries, were present at the conference. One of the main sessions was a site selectors panel, which gave opportunity for attendees to ask questions and gain insight on what site selectors want and look for when choosing a site for their clients. They provided great insight on how best to market sites to them as well, which will be very helpful as the Alliance begins to market our two sites that are nearly certified. From the panel, individual break-out sessions were held with each of the site selectors. This was also very helpful in gaining insight on a more personal level, since questions were encouraged. Megan met with a site selector who deals solely with data center prospects, and one who focuses more on manufacturing, but had great knowledge on certified sites and master planning.
Overall, the conference offered great sessions, as well as many opportunities to network with many economic developers from the region. The Alliance is excited to have a new regional organization to partner with and gain further knowledge from.
